Description

The FP-40 is an all-new instrument that takes the expressiveness, playability and user-friendly design of its predecessor (the highly-regarded FP-30X), and builds on each of these dramatically. It also introduces a number of features that are new for the segment.

Expressive piano engine
At the heart of the FP-40, you’ll find Roland’s latest-generation Piano Reality engine. Shared with part of the GP series of grand pianos, this brings brand new grand piano samples to the FP-40, paired with Roland’s industry-leading modelling technology. Together, these offer unmatched realism, giving the FP-40 the expressive nuance of a well-regulated acoustic piano. Players of all musical styles will appreciate the organic string resonance, key action sounds, and full-length note ring-out that Piano Reality offers.

Industry-first integrated learning app
The FP-40 introduces Piano Sphere, Roland’s new tuition app based on technology provided by industry-leader Skoove. Piano Sphere is tightly integrated into the FP-40’s interface, with the inclusion of a hardware button on the instrument’s front panel to control the app and receive visual alerts. Incentivising players through a streak dashboard, Piano Sphere is designed to inspire players of all stages to engage with the piano every day. And the inbuilt Wi-Fi connectivity allows the FP-40 to track when the instrument is played and record a streak in Piano Sphere, even if the user’s phone or tablet isn’t nearby at the time.
Piano Sphere is a critical part of the FP-40 experience, and as a result, it isn’t just a limited-term trial, it’s the full app and offers lifetime access with every FP-40.

New speaker and amplification system
The FP-40’s speaker system incorporates a brand new speaker box (or resonance chamber), similar to those found in the FP-60X and FP-90X. The speakers now fire upwards instead of downwards, and together, these changes produce a rich, full-bodied piano tone. In addition, the FP-40 uses a digital amplifier for pristine sound reproduction, a first in this segment.

Responsive key action
The PHA-4 keyboard action in the FP-40 features note repetition response that’s 2.5x faster, supporting complex classical and jazz playing techniques. An industry standard, the PHA-4 also includes the longest pivot point in its class, and an escapement mechanism.

Other features and updates
Rounding up these features, FP-40 also introduces a redesigned user interface with a sliding volume control, over the air firmware updates via Wi-Fi, and a slimmer, lighter design that oozes class. The FP-40 will be available in black or white.

Stand and pedal board
A new stand (KSF-40) launches alongside the FP-40, replacing the previous stand (KSC-70).
The KPD-70 triple pedal board continues from the previous model.
